Stained glass workshops, commissions and equipment
Join me in the Studio, or Commission a Piece of Art
At Classy Glass Art Studio, you can attend workshops, purchase tools and equipment and commission custom-designed hand-crafted pieces of art.
Art has become a very therapeutic pasttime, especially in recent years, with the busy and stressful lives that we all lead. This is a great way to “take a load off”, meet other people and get those creative juices flowing.
I offer stained glass workshops for beginners, as well as those who have been away from the craft for a number of years and want to take it up again.
All of the workshops are 3 ½ hours long. I offer the beginners a choice between a number of projects that are simple and can be completed during one workshop.
You are not required to purchase tools & equipment in order to attend workshops but have use of these in my studio.
I make bespoke items which are wonderful as gifts for friends or family or perhaps you want something to spoil yourself with.
You are welcome to bring along a design that you like or I can assist you with putting something together. Whether it’s a small gift or larger décor items, I can create something special that you will love.
I carry a variety of basic tools and equipment in stock for those who wish to do some of the work at home between workshops, including cutters, pliers, grinders, foil, flux, solder, patina and a range of stained glass. If there is something that I do not have in stock, I can order these items for you.
I’m Jacqui Holmes
I learned the art of stained glass from a friend who had learned in Zambia from an artist there. I had been looking for a business I could operate from home, in order to have more flexibility with my son being at school. I opened my doors on 17th January 2011.
I did most of my growing up in Johannesburg where I finished school and started my studies at Wits University. I completed my degree at what was then UPE (University of Port Elizabeth) and worked for a number of large organisations as well as small family businesses.
One of my aims has been to create more awareness of stained glass as a hobby. Beautiful stained glass does not only appear in cathedrals and churches. There are so many other contemporary ways to use stained glass, in your home or office and even your garden & outdoor “chill” area.
I love my studio, which I have dubbed “my happy place” and love sharing what I have learned over the years with others as well as creating items, large & small for those looking for something a little different.
I’ve had a book published
I am the main author on my stained glass art book called Classy Glass Art, which was published by Metz Press in English and Afrikaans and released in South Africa in 2013.
My publisher took the book to the Frankfurt Book Festival, and since then the book has been translated and published in Finland. In November of 2018 it was launched in the USA.
It’s available to purchase through Amazon and everywhere books are sold.
As all you stained glass people know, going to work at Jacqui’s stained glass is a happy place. Well, it certainly is my happy place, and as I drove off this afternoon, I was thinking for me this is such an amazing place to have with awesome people there. I just want to say with all honesty that I am very glad that during the week I can have a break from work and spend the time with really special people, that means a lot to me.
I 100% love being in that class, whenever I go. It’s very good for me and then I get even more of a thrill when I am at home and I look at what Jacqui has helped me make. For our creativity and sanity, thank you, Jacqui, for having this class.
Its the best part of being on holiday.
I love being part of the class even if I’m making angels again
Thanks Jacqui for creating this special place and sharing it with us.
So much fun! Loved the friendly atmosphere and learning new skills while creating something awesome to take home. I can really recommend this to anyone.
